  2. It's so good to hear from you, Joseph. A few questions: What's the food like? What's your room like? Any other foreigners at Karigiri? Any spiritual activities among staff or patients? Other details?
    Praying without ceasing....Love you, Mom

  3. The food is tasty, but it's just me eating it right now, so I don't get much of a selection and what I don't eat, I see again the next day. The restaurants in town are awesome and very cheap, so I eat out for dinner when I can.

The room is very humble (extremely hard bed, desk and lawn chair that doesn't accomodate my thighs, and attached bathroom with spigot and bucket for shower. Overall, it's really nice, especially compared to the rest of India. The A/C is crucial and that's really a luxury to have for such a small room (the molecular biology lab is the only other building to have A/C at Karigiri).

There are lots of foreign students (U.S and Europe) posted at Vellore CMC, but none at Karigiri, although I think two U.S. medical students are coming tomorrow. I met a lot of the CMC students at a weekly dinner/meeting in town on Wednesday. They have a lot less freedom and haven't gotten to experience India like I did, plus they all came in groups, and the ones I talked to were kind of annoying for the most part. I've decided I like the thrill and autonomy of my situation more than I would like hanging out with them. Maybe that will change after a while though.

There are daily devotions held for the entire Karigiri community, and almost everyone I've talked to seems to be a true believer and is "missions-minded." Some American students were the first people I met that didn't seem too interested in Christianity (besides the millions of Hindus and Muslims).
